LYNDONVILLE - Justin Smith, Lyndon’s Zoning Administrator for more than a decade, embarked on a new role this year, as he took over with Dawn Dwyer for Dan Hill as part-time Municipal Administrator of Lyndonville back in October, as Dan began his retirement. Dan is now in the office three days a week, but it’s been a combined role for Smith, Dwyer and Hill, as they split duties when it comes to dealing with overseeing the operating departments, such as highways, water, sewer and police, of the town and village of Lyndonville. Smith sat down with NewsLINC for an interview talking about his newly appointed position among other things.
LYNDON - As the winter season approaches, the Lyndon Outing Club hosted their 3rd annual Holiday Bazaar. Founded in 1937, the Lyndon Outing Club has offered family fun for decades, and hopes to continue with the help from events like this, as well as from community members. Providing the only night skiing venue here in the Northeast Kingdom, the LOC is also home to one of the oldest running rope tows in history.
LYNDONVILLE- Curt Cuccia is a Vermont native who specializes in brewing small batch beers with original recipes at the Covered Bridge Craft Brewery. Cuccia delivers his draft-only beer, "Lucky Me", to bars and restaurants across the state.
LYNDONVILLE- It's not a question that the Northeast Kingdom is one of the poorest parts of Vermont. With the average per capita income in Lyndonville at just over $19,000 a year, there is a problem for some when it comes to getting even some of the most basic needs, such as food.

LYNDON- Every season has something special to offer, like the extreme changes of temperature or the alteration in atmosphere, however the one thing everyone loves about seasons are the variety of sports offered during them.
LYNDON- The Lyndon Area Food Shelf in Saint Peter's Episcopal Church has seen an increase in people seeking food assistance due to recent cuts made to the 3SquaresVT Program.
LYNDON- After an inspection by the Vermont State Fire Marshal, a local ambulance service has been ordered to keep overnight workers out of their building's bedrooms located on the Lyndon State Campus.
LYNDON- This time last year the Lyndon Institute Vikings football team was sitting at home licking their wounds after being eliminated from playoff contention. Now, one year later, they are playing for the Vermont Division II State Championship.
LYNDON - Chili lovers from all of the North East Kingdom came together for the sixth annual chili cook off hosted by the Lyndon Outing Club. People gathered around to eat cups of sample chili, listen to live music from local bands and musicians like Suncooked and Red Tin Box.
LYNDONVILLE - Downtown Lyndonville is seeing an increase in business. All retail stores are currently occupied, and according to the Lyndon Chamber of Commerce, that's something that hasn't happened in years.
LYNDONVILLE - Former Lyndon State College baseball coach Edward Poland, 47, of Essex Junction has been accused of embezzlement from the college's baseball program.
Lyndon State College officials contacted the Vermont State Police back in March 2013 regarding money missing from the program, shortly before Poland was forced to resign from his coaching position.
LYNDONVILLE - New faces are seen everyday, as well as old, but every town seems to have that one face, that one person that, everyone knows and no one will forget. In Lyndonville that person is Levi Gardner.
LYNDON- The condition of the Changing Seasons Motel and the connecting Vinny's Restaurant has greatly unimpressed bidders. As a result, an auction on the motel and restaurant has been pushed back until November.
LYNDONVILLE - $250,000 grants funded by the Chase Bank and its supporters will be awarded to twelve small businesses nationwide. Four Lyndonville Businesses have high hopes of being awarded the grant, known as Mission Main Street.
LYNDON, VT- The National Rifel Association held their yearly seminar. This year was specially geared towards women. "Women on Target" was created after the occurrence of wide spread shootings happening too often through out our nation. This seminar was used to introduce women to Firearms, helping protect to themselves and even others.
LYNDONVILLE- The Darling Inn in Lyndonville will play host to a free Thanksgiving dinner for the second straight year. The festive feast is being planned by local volunteers and is open to anyone in the community, including surrounding towns.
LYNDONVILLE- There is an end in sight for the water project on Speedwell drive and College road in Lyndonville. At the Lyndonville Board of Trustees meeting Monday night there was an update to the project.The project has been going on for several months and has caused a bit of a headache for some local residents. The project, which included replacing some existing water lines, is nearing the end.
LYNDON- For 118 years the Hilltoppers of St. Johnsbury Academy and the Vikings of Lyndon Institute have taken to the football field to do battle. And now they are now considered one of the most historic and best high school football rivalries in the country.Way back in 1894 St. Johnsbury Academy and Lyndon Institute took to the field together for the first time. The Hilltoppers sent out their second team to go against Lyndon Institute's first team who were taking the field for the first time against an opponent. After St. Johnsbury took the first game 28-0, facing each other has been a tradition that the schools have continued ever since.
LYNDON- Dan Hill, the municipal town administrator for Lyndon, has taken a separation from the town for one month. Justin Smith and Dawn Dwyer, both members of the municipal building, will step up and take over in Hill's place while he is away.
LYNDONVILLE- The Lyndon Children's Center has a new home, but why they were asked to move away from their old hilltop home is still unclear. Lyndon State College Dean of Administration Wayne Hamilton stated " the decision was financial...the rent being paid was not even covering the cost of our utilities."
LYNDON- Back in 1998 Lyndon Institute took a different approach to finding it's next junior varsity field hockey coach. Rather than trying to find someone with a background in field hockey, they asked someone with a soccer background to fill the vacant spot. Now, fifteen years later Roxanne Courser is still coaching field hockey at LI.
LYNDONVILLE - Saturday afternoon, the Lyndon State Hornets took on the Green Mountain Eagles after a shutout earlier in the day.
Lyndon controlled the game as they led 25 to 19 in the first set against their North Atlantic conference foes. The Hornets kept the game in their favor as they continued their scoring streak in the second set.
LYNDON - The Vermont Symphony Orchestra's annual fall tour is well under way. This fall's tour marks the Orchestra's 20th anniversary of their musical festivals, where they combine their music with the colorful foliage season around Vermont. The tour started September 20th, and finishes tonight.
LYNDONVILLE - The Cumberland Farms in Lyndonville will soon be on the move. The relocation will take down a few houses in the area, which has left some residents unpleased. What some people might not understand is that the village of Lyndon is almost completely a commercial zone.
LYNDON - Northeast Kingdom Waste Management is holding a hazardous waste collection day. People in the area are requested to drop off any hazardous materials that should not be thrown away.
All waste will be collected on Saturday, September 28th, at the Lyndon Recycling Center on Church St. from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
